All SMU Windows computers will transition from using CylancePROTECT to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint as an anti-malware application during the summer of 2023. Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is an industry-leading, cloud-powered endpoint security solution that helps to secure against ransomware, file-less malware, and other sophisticated attacks on Windows and macOS devices. SMU SuperPod Gets Visit from Oregon State University
On Wednesday, March 22, 2023, a team from Oregon State University visited SMU to learn more about our high-performance computing environment, the NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, and research support services. Oregon State recently announced the launch of a $200 million research and education center. Since their facility will not open its doors until 2025, they wanted to talk to other universities about setting up successful research services, a NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD, and support staff. Upgrades for University-Owned Computers Start June 1
As the new fiscal year begins on June 1, 2023, approximately 700 computers will become eligible for replacement under the University Technology Fund. During the week of April 10, individuals with an eligible computer will receive an email with instructions for placing their orders. To support the increase in orders that typically accompany the start of the new fiscal year, we will onboard additional temporary staff to ensure we can deploy the computer as quickly as possible this summer.

Summer Classroom Upgrades To Add Interactivity and Sharing
Planning activities are well underway for the various classrooms that will receive technology upgrades and changes during the new fiscal year. Annual IT Computer Verification
During the month of February, faculty and staff with an SMU computer will receive an email requesting verification of their assigned devices. The email will contain a personalized link to a Qualtrics survey. Do not forward that email to anyone else! When you take the survey, you’ll see a list of all devices that are assigned to you.
