Witches hatSocial engineering is when attackers trick people into giving up information or clicking something harmful. Instead of hacking technology, they exploit trust and urgency.

  • Phishing = email scams designed to look real, so you’ll click, download, or share personal information.
  • Smishing = phishing delivered by text message, often disguised as package notices, account alerts, or prize offers.

These attacks work because they look convincing — but if you know the signs, they’re much easier to stop.

Could you spot the difference between a real message from SMU and a fake one? Phishing and smishing attacks are designed to look convincing — but if you know the signs, you can stop them before they stop you.

SMU Begins Review of Web Content Management System

Sitecore UpdatesSMU has launched an analysis project to review the University’s current Web Content Management (WCM) system, Sitecore. This collaborative effort between  Development and External Affairs and the Office of Information Technology will explore whether Sitecore continues to meet the University’s needs or if another platform may better support how we connect with our audiences and share the SMU story.
