Social engineering is when attackers trick people into giving up information or clicking something harmful. Instead of hacking technology, they exploit trust and urgency.
- Phishing = email scams designed to look real, so you’ll click, download, or share personal information.
- Smishing = phishing delivered by text message, often disguised as package notices, account alerts, or prize offers.
These attacks work because they look convincing — but if you know the signs, they’re much easier to stop.

We’re excited to announce the availability of Microsoft Authenticator for use with your SMU accounts. In spring, we discussed a passwordless future where logins are easier and more secure, and passwords are all but eliminated. We are now starting on that journey towards the future.

SMU Begins Review of Web Content Management System
SMU has launched an analysis project to review the University’s current Web Content Management (WCM) system, Sitecore. This collaborative effort between Development and External Affairs and the Office of Information Technology will explore whether Sitecore continues to meet the University’s needs or if another platform may better support how we connect with our audiences and share the SMU story.
