Goldwater Scholarship for Undergraduate STEM Researchers

It’s that time of year again to nominate talented undergraduate STEM researchers for the Goldwater Scholarship!

The Goldwater Scholarship is one of the United States’ most prestigious undergraduate STEM awards.  Its purpose is to cultivate and support the next generation of scientific researchers.  Goldwater Scholars receive an academic scholarship of up to $7,500 per year for their junior and senior years as they prepare for professional careers in scientific research.

Recent SMU recipients include Joshua Ange (Physics, 2023), Shriya Siddhartha (Biochemistry, 2024), and Christopher Cook (Physics, 2025).

The Office of National Undergraduate Fellowships is hosting two information sessions in early November for students interested in applying for the Goldwater Scholarship on Friday, November 7 and Tuesday, November 11.  Join us to learn how you can prepare a competitive application!

Applicants must be in their second or third year of undergraduate study and majoring in a STEM discipline.

The SMU internal deadline for this year’s Goldwater Scholarship application is January 1, 2026.
