Carrie La Ferle, Ph.D. Discusses Blue Bell Ice Cream Recall

Blue Bell

Dr. Carrie La Ferle, of the Temerlin Advertising Institute consults with the media regarding the Blue Bell Ice Cream Recall.

La Ferle Interview

La Ferle suggested that during a crisis, it is most important to demonstrate your concern for your customers and treat them as people.

  1. Take care of the victims,
  2. Find and correct the source of the outbreak,
  3. Work with the FDA, and
  4. Only then worry about advertising.

Blue Bell is a staple in Texas and Home spun brand. People love their Blue Bell Ice Cream and are forgiving if companies act in their best interests. In this case, Blue Bell has gone overboard to demonstrate their concern by pulling all the product off the shelves until the source of the listeria can be found. As Blue Bell re-enters the market, consumers will be ready to support their favorite flavors.

Interview can be found at CBS here.

Meadows School faculty member Willie Baronet opened the TEDxSMU show to a standing ovation (it’s his third TEDxSMU appearance) with the latest chapter in his quest to buy signs from the homeless – this time to talk about his sign-collecting journey across the country and how it shaped his understanding of “home.”

“Three years ago I stood on this same stage and talked about my WE ARE ALL HOMELESS project, and I said I wanted to travel across the country one day to buy signs,” Baronet said.  “In July of 2014 I did just that, traveling from Seattle to LA to New York in 31 days. I’m honored to be part of this year’s TEDxSMU/Inside SMU program so that I can share some highlights of this adventure, and the lessons I continue to learn about compassion, gratitude and what home really means.”

TAI Student Was Awarded The O Joe Russell Scholarship From AAF Houston

The Advertising Education Foundation of Houston (AEFH) awarded the O Joe Russell Scholarship to TAI student, Sarah Campbell.  The AEFH and the American Advertising Federation of Houston (AAF-H) on April 10th presented 25 scholarships to college students who are pursuing undergraduate or post graduate degrees in advertising, communications, interactive marketing, journalism, radio/TV, commercial aSarahrt, public relations or other related fields. Sarah Campbell competed amongst students who currently attend colleges and universities within Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas (AAF-District 10).  TAI is not the only one proud of Sarah’s achievements. Her former teacher, Professor Haayen said, ““I had the pleasure of having Sarah as a student in my Advertising Research class last semester. She was a joy to have in class. She is curious, engaged, motivated and hardworking. The kind of student who inspires her teacher and classmates to do their best work. This scholarship honor is well deserved, and I am sure it is the first of many successes to come. Bravo, Sarah!”  The AEFH received submissions from 17 different schools within the AAF-District 10 region.  We are unbelievably proud that a Southern Methodist student was able to win amongst such stiff competition.  On achieving such a prestigious scholarship IMG_0707-1Campbell said, “I am honored to be selected as a recipient of this scholarship! The TAI program at SMU has been an incredible academic experience that has pushed me to grow both creatively and professionally. With the gift of this scholarship, it will be easier for me to afford the valuable resources available here at TAI. I look forward to continued mentorship from outstanding professors, inspiration from my talented peers, and the opportunity to increase the depth and breadth of my creative portfolio. The Lord has blessed me with more opportunities than I can count, and I am beyond grateful for the financial help that allows me to pursue His plan for me.” TAI is extremely proud of Sarah’s accomplishments and we can’t wait to see what she does in the future!

Please join the Temerlin Advertising Institute in congratulating Sarah Campbell on this outstanding achievement.

Read about an Executive Internship from our TAI Second Year MA Student, Morgan Baden

In the final semester of the Temerlin Advertising Institute’s MA in Advertising program, students work in an executive internship with a Dallas based agency. Read Morgan’s story below.

Morgan Baden: TM Advertising

Untitled

As an intern at TM Advertising, I have really been able to get my feet wet in the industry and be a part of a team that cares a lot about finding the “beautiful truth” for each  brand we work with. Working on the Account Management team, I have been able to work on accounts like American Airlines Credit Union. For this client, I develop Creative Briefs, Assignment Sheets, and Change Notices  for the TM creative department. This account  has provided me with a  lot of responsibility and has taught me a great deal about how different departments all come together to create these Direct Mail pieces.

I have also had the opportunity to work with the client  Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant, where I developed  food  shoot  plan  books.  Plus, I  was able to attend the photo shoot to see how much hard work actually goes into just  setting up a plate of seafood for TV and print!

TM has an awesome culture. It is not too small and not too big. There is a reason they were voted Ad Age’s best place to work in 2012 and 2014 and it is because they care more about what’s best for the client in the long run rather than just getting the job done.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to work with great clients and even better people!

Check back soon for updates from other students and their MA in Advertising Executive Internships!
