Student Technology Survey Highlight Areas for Growth [Infographic]

The Student Technology Survey was conducted to gather information about what the current student body believes are the most crucial technology-related issues at SMU. Partnering with the CIO Student Advisory Board, OIT’s Academic Technology Services completed surveys of over 1,000 students during a two-week period during the fall 2023 term and collected both quantitative and qualitative data focusing on OIT systems, resources, and technical support, including the IT Help Desk and teaching technologies. Sitecore at SMU 2018–2019 Infographic

Sitecore LogoThe Office of Information Technology (OIT) Web Team recently reviewed the usage of Sitecore on campus, support and training for Sitecore, and how the smu.edu is being accessed. While this review can help with analyzing the effectiveness of the tool and our support, it will also help prepare us as we move to upgrade sites to the next generation of page layouts.

Some interesting tidbits are highlighted in the infographic, such as almost 4.2 million users visited SMU online last year. Of those users, most use Chrome or Safari to access smu.edu. This could be due to almost half of the users are accessing the site on mobile devices and those are the default browsers for Android and iOS.

As for Sitecore editors, of which there are almost 700, the top 7% of active editors – users that have logged in and made an edit within the last year – performed over 50% of all actions within Sitecore. Also, almost 10% of the editors are students.

Results of the 2017 Student Technology Needs Assessment [Infographic]

In 2017, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) surveyed students and staff regarding technology use and support in order to assess and improve existing OIT services and discover new and innovative areas to pursue. The Fall 2017 Student Technology Needs Assessment surveyed over 1,900 undergraduate and graduate students at SMU, and the Faculty Technology Satisfaction Survey collected information from almost 200 faculty members.
