Protecting yourself from crashes with CrashPlan

CrashplanWe all have had the situation where our computer has locked up or crashed while we are working on that important document that we, of course, didn’t save soon enough. Well, I won’t tell you that Code42’s CrashPlan backup software will protect you from failing to “Save, and Save Often,” but it will save you from catastrophic hard disk failure.

CrashPlan is preloaded on all new University computers to provide daily backups of files in your user folder. This way, if your hard drive fails, IT can restore the University applications using LANDesk and your files with CrashPlan. Continue reading Protecting yourself from crashes with CrashPlan

Important information about Windows 10

We are receiving several reports of machines crashing after applying updates in Windows 10.  In most of these cases, the computer has to be fully reloaded.  While we are looking for the specific update causing the issue, SMU employees, please take a moment to ensure you have a current backup of all your data. CrashPlan Pro: What to Expect in Version 5

CrashPlan logoCrashPlan Pro has been available for primary SMU-owned computers for faculty and staff since 2013. When hardware or software has failed, CrashPlan has saved many of our community members from losing their critical data. OIT is pleased to report that the new version of CrashPlan Pro will provide the same reliable backup service while simplifying the user interface to make file restoration and management even easier.
