Last spring, at the end of one of my Excel trainings, I overheard Jade Weaver pitching the idea of Excel certification and summertime learning to her Division of Student Affairs colleague, Kim Nelson Pryor.

MathWorks accounts are changing this summer! All students, researchers, faculty, and staff will be able to sign in to MathWorks using SMU Single Sign-On this summer. This will allow for just-in-time account creation and licensing for MATLAB and Simulink software on macOS and Windows devices.
On July 26, 2025, the STABLE portal will be unavailable for a brief period while we upgrade the software to the latest version, which will provide new features and an improved look and feel. 
In this month’s Canvas Plus Monthly, we discuss the new features and enhancements available in the Canvas LMS with MathML, the new online polling system for live audience engagement and feedback, and upcoming workshops and training opportunities. 
Last month, OIT’s Microsoft Office Specialist program showcased SMU’s successes in bringing certification to campus at CERTIFIED, Certiport’s annual conference. The conference brings together educators and certification leaders from across the country. Laurene Klassen, Director of IT Training & Communications and CERTIFIED Ambassador, was able to share those wins with other educators and administrators in Grapevine, Texas, where this year’s conference was held.
