Operation Copilot launched in September with over 220 faculty and staff participating. Throughout the semester, individuals reviewed a series of videos highlighting the power of Copilot within Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Meetings, and Copilot Chat. Each individual then explored how Copilot can be applied within their respective job responsibilities and provided insights via a feedback form in Canvas. Empowered by AI: New AI Training Pathways Available for Staff
AI isn’t coming to campus; it’s already here. In fact, you may have heard the buzz on campus regarding SMU’s Generative AI Coalition of the Willing, which launched in May 2024. This initiative partnered with our schools and key departments to engage in AI experimentation and learn from each other. The coalition has been a success and has continued to expand. Now, we’re rolling out targeted AI training designed specifically for staff this fall.

Using Microsoft Copilot in Your Everyday Work
Many staff assume that Microsoft Copilot is off-limits without a premium license, but that’s just not the case. If you haven’t explored Microsoft’s AI tool yet, you may want to give it a spin. While I’m not a fan of Copilot for image generation, I’ve found it incredibly helpful for making meeting minutes more concise, drafting training materials, brainstorming ideas, and a whole host of other tasks.
