Review and Update Your Elections BEFORE 11:59 pm on Monday, October 31!
If you do not review and update your current elections for medical, dental, and vision coverage, your 2011 coverage will roll over to 2012. This process occurs automatically unless you make changes within Access.SMU. Please note that there are exceptions to this automatic roll over process – see below for details.
To update your elections (medical, dental, vision) and/or to enroll in a FSA or a
HSA for 2012, follow these steps:
- Log into Access.SMU.
- Under Self-Service, select Benefits, then Benefits Enrollment.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to make your elections.
- When you are finished making your elections, be sure to click the Submit button to complete your enrollment.
Exceptions to the Roll Over Process:
- If you are currently enrolled in the $500 deductible medical option and do not
make a new election for 2012, your coverage will default to the $1,000 deductible plan. - Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Account (see below).
Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA):
FSA (health and/or dependent care) and HSA accounts do not automatically roll over to the next year like the medical, dental, and vision elections.
You must re-enroll in the FSA or HSA account each year and indicate the annual dollar
amount to be withdrawn from your pay on a pre-tax basis.Â
