PhD Student Receives an Outstanding Poster Award and is Published in Retrovirology

Congratulations to Robert Harrod, Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences! The abstract from his PhD graduate student, Megan Romeo’s poster at the 16th International Conference on Human Retroviruses held in Montreal has been published in the journal Retrovirology. AP-NBC 5 DFW: Reasearch Conducted to Determine the Cause for Texas Earthquakes

The Associated Press covered the research of SMU seismologist Heather R. DeShon. DeShon is leading the effort to trace the source of a recent sequence of small earthquakes in North Texas and any relationship they may have to the injection of waste water by energy companies using shale gas production to recover gas. Two psychology undergraduates presented their research projects at the Engaged Learning Symposium on Feb. 6th. Mariam Alaka presented her study of about Nigerian orphans’ awareness of HIV/AIDS, under the direction of Dr. Holden. Spanking Research Changes Parents’ Attitudes

New studies at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, found that parents who favored spanking, later significantly altered their views after they were briefly exposed to the research findings, said child psychologist George Holden. A professor in the SMU Department of Psychology, Holden led the studies, which have been published online http://bit.ly/LTUlch.
