New Federal Ethnicity & Race Reporting Requirements

In an effort to comply with a new federal mandate that requires all educational institutions to change how race and ethnicity data is collected and reported, we are providing faculty and staff with the opportunity to identify their ethnicity and race under the newly established two-part question format and new reporting category.

The new reporting categories allow employees to identify themselves using more than one racial or ethnic designations, providing a wider range of options for self-identification. All University employees are encouraged to review and/or update their race and ethnicity information.

To review or update your information, please go to Access.SMU.edu and log in with your SMU network user name and password. Then select Self Service, Personal Information, and Ethnic Groups.

– If your race and ethnicity information is already selected appropriately within the two-part question, you do not need to make a change.
– If it is incorrect or incomplete, please update your information and save your responses. Persons with multiple racial identities may select all appropriate categories.

Please complete all changes by Wednesday, October 20.
