For our September edition of Staff Mailbag, we wanted to address a few questions we recently received. This month, we’ll examine where to go when you suspect a software outage, and how to find recorded Teams meetings.
- Where do I get the most up-to-date information if I suspect a software issue on campus?
- If you haven’t heard, this summer we launched an outage website. Our smu.edu/outages page is a place where you can quickly check system status updates, even for cloud-based tools. Watch this 3-minute Quick Tip demo to see how it works!
- My team and I recently held a planning meeting in Microsoft Teams, we recorded it, but I can’t find it. How long are recordings stored, and where do I go to access them?
- If you’re looking for a Teams meeting recording, there are a couple of easy ways to find it. You can either:
- Use the search feature at the top of your Teams application and search by the meeting name, or
- Go to the Team’s calendar, open the meeting, and click View Recap. From there, you can access Notes, AI Notes, and the Transcript.
Important: Teams recordings are stored for 120 days. If you need to keep a recording longer, open it in Teams, click Watch in Browser, and it will open in Microsoft Stream. There, you can download the video for long-term storage.
- What if it’s expired? Will I be notified, and is there any way to restore it?

- Yes, notices are sent from SharePoint online, and you can restore from the email. If you suspect you missed an email, or want to check what’s in your recycle bin.
- Navigate to OneDrive and click the recycle bin.
- Select the file you want to retrieve.
- Click restore.
