Navigating Academic Requirements: New Tools for Understanding Degree Progress Reports

Two students looking at materials on a laptop. The Registrar’s Office and OIT recently partnered to create new trainings on how to understand both the Degree Progress Report and the Degree Progress Report (DPR) Summary features that are available in my.SMU. These trainings, along with a new explainer video for students, will aid conversations as students navigate their academic requirements.

“I’m so happy we were able to get these updated materials for our staff and students. The DPR can be tricky to read for even the most experienced advisor. This will certainly help our staff streamline conversations by having these tools available.“, said Josh Beaty, Assistant Director of the University Advising Center.

Joe Papari, Director of Enrollment Services for Students and Technology, shared “While this was a small project, it was a critical one. My team may be the subject matter experts when it comes to the tables and set up in my.SMU, but the interface with the Advising office helped us to determine what’s really important for students. The team really worked well together to streamline our efforts.”

These new videos are available on our wiki and added to an Advising Canvas course for future employee onboarding.
