Cybersecurity Wellness Program

New Security Awareness Training Coming to Campus

Cybersecurity Wellness ProgramJust in time for Cybersecurity Awareness Month, SMU is changing how we do cybersecurity awareness training. Last year, we launched a unique program focused on cybersecurity habits. Participants opting-in learned how to master cybersecurity habits and built a custom-tailored plan to make security feel easy. The responses from individuals completing the course were overwhelmingly positive.

Based on the award-winning book Well Aware: Master the Nine Cybersecurity Habits to Protect Your Future, the Cybersecurity Wellness Program focuses on improving cybersecurity by concentrating on changing a user’s behavior towards the nine cybersecurity habits: Literacy, Skepticism, Vigilance, Secrecy, Culture, Diligence, Community, Mirroring, and Deception. Faculty and staff will have the opportunity to take the new course and opt-in to a monthly security awareness microlearning series instead of doing annual training. Also, as part of the curriculum, users will be provided a cybersecurity personality assessment for free.

The Cybersecurity Wellness Program is less than an hour. It is a great way to help our employees succeed in the mission to keep our organizations secure by finding and improving their unique strengths.
