Due to the recent ransomware outbreak, the Office of Information Technology would like to remind you to be alert for suspicious emails/websites and to regularly update and backup your computer.
To assist with the backup, the University provides CrashPlan to your primary University-owned computer. Please make sure that you have CrashPlan installed on your SMU computer and that your computer is backed up.
- Verify if you have CrashPlan installed by searching for CrashPlan in the Window’s Search Window or Mac’s Spotlight search.
- For detailed instructions on installing CrashPlan, please visit smu.edu/CrashPlan and click on the Documentation and Training tab.
- Once you have CrashPlan Installed, verify your user drive is being backed up.
If you have any questions or concerns about using CrashPlan or backing up your computer, please contact the IT Help Desk at 214-768-HELP or help@smu.edu.
OIT also recommends that you verify your personal computers are regularly backed up with a third-party cloud-based backup service or external hard drives. Unfortunately, IT Help Desk cannot support backups of personal computers.
