  • $888K internal reallocation for seven IT positions from administrative to academic computing
  • $1,188K in funding not swept from Law School due to financial agreement
  • $1,267K in other restricted funding sources unable to be swept centrally
  • $494K to fund six academic OIT positions where resources were not swept 
  • In all cases, it is expected the resources will be reinvested in academic activities by the school
  • Restricted funding is defined as funding which has been externally restricted for a purpose either by a granting agency or donor

University Research Council – $100,000.00

  • Funds support the research endeavors of faculty as determined by the University Research Council

 Research Staff Support – $81,000.00

  • Funds support staff salary in Office of Research Administration 

Academic Fellowships – $1,000,000.00

High Performance Computing-$2,000,000.00

 Academic Initiatives Fund-$1,000,000.00

  • Some of the existing allocations of Operational Excellence funds are placeholders for more detailed decisions to be made in the future regarding their expenditure.

Because the Operational Excellence funds are generated from throughout the University, academic and nonacademic, the President will be very closely involved in the utilization of these funds. Therefore, in close consultation with the President, PEC, Deans and others, the Provost is responsible for the proposal and decision making process about how to allocate financial resources to academic initiatives and programs.

The Provost will present the academic initiatives and programs approved from this process to the Operational Excellence Executive Committee. The Provost will also recommend to the Executive Committee, for its review and approval, a level of funding from current and future savings from Operational Excellence projects for each of the academic initiatives and programs. 

Undergraduate Equalization Fund – $1,000,000.00

  • Funds support the Institute which encompasses all divisions within Dedman College and the six other schools. 

Recurring Costs Related to Software Investments – $226,000.00

  • Funds support the annual license for Concur software, purchased to support Travel and Entertainment and personal reimbursement;  the annual license fee for Selectica software, purchased to support contract processing; and the annual license for Gideon Taylor software, purchased to support the development of on-line forms. 

OIT Academic Technology Group – $104,000.00

  • Funds support the newly established Academic Technology Group and related administrative expenses such as enhanced training, hardware and software

Operational Excellence Project Office – $310,000.00

FY16 Structural Budget Deficit – $3,864,000.00

  • Funds used to balance the University budget
