The OE2C project will be conducted over the next 12-18 months, divided into 3 phases. The first phase is discovery and diagnostic, which will take place over the next 4 to 5 months. During this time, the Bain team will assess opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation, and present them to SMU for review. The next 3 to 6 months will constitute the design and planning phase of the improvements SMU selects to pursue. The third phase, over the following 6 to 12 months, will be the implementation of those changes.
Our process is intended to be conducted in an environment of cooperation, openness and honesty. We plan to communicate our processes and be as transparent as possible to help the campus understand the review process and resulting recommendations. Through careful management, SMU has avoided some of the institutional angst and drastic budgetary shortfalls that have been plaguing some other institutions and reported in the media. This current process is intended to solidify our ability to weather economic and demographic changes while moving forward.
