We are pleased to report that our email sending address project is making progress, with our first phase now complete. This means that email addresses created for new SMU users as of December 2025 now end with @smu.edu instead of @mail.smu.edu.
Here’s information on where we go next.
Now that this first phase is complete, work begins to implement the second phase, which requires us to switch everyone’s default sending address (the address your message appears from to your recipients) to @smu.edu. The legacy @mail.smu.edu address will be retained for receiving messages, but the @smu.edu address will be used for sending messages.
As the second phase is still being planned, we will provide the community with a timeline at a later date. Any updates and a list of frequently asked questions will be available on our project information page.
