The Registrar’s Office recently partnered with the IT Training Team to revamp one of my.SMU’s most essential trainings: The Schedule of Classes. This training supports departments in preparing course schedules for upcoming terms, helping them organize teaching resources and ensuring students can plan their academic paths and graduate on time.
This multi-year initiative included a full update of documentation, the creation of over 30 training videos now available in Canvas for onboarding new employees, and the launch of a dedicated wiki page featuring scheduling FAQs and enhanced documentation.
“Revamping the Schedule of Classes training was certainly a challenge, but an important one” said Darrah Rippy, Associate Registrar for Curriculum and Scheduling. “The schedule of classes is so nuanced, and full of important details that impact both students and faculty. There is so much more to a schedule than just meeting patterns and times. Thousands of decisions go into building a successful schedule, and our schedulers needed thorough instructions on how to handle each situation. We worked together to make our training materials more robust and to help preemptively answer as many questions as possible. I think that the wiki page and updated Canvas course will be great resources for both our continuing and new schedulers.”

The new training resources are now available, and schedulers are encouraged to review this updated documentation.
