Autodesk Education has Moved to Single Sign-On: What You Need to Know

Autodesk Education accounts will be required to use Single Sign-On (SSO) as of August 7, 2026, but SMU accounts can use SSO right away! This change streamlines login, enhances security, and simplifies access for students, faculty and staff at SMU. Here’s some tips to help you get started.

What Is Changing?

Instead of managing a separate Autodesk username and password, users will be able to sign in using their SMU credentials —via SSO.

What This Means for Students

Students will now be able to sign in to Autodesk using the same credentials they use for their SMU resources.

Students will still have full access to the Autodesk Education Plan, which includes free access to software such as:

  • AutoCAD
  • Revit
  • Fusion 360
  • Maya
  • 3ds Max
  • And many more!

How to Get Autodesk Software Under the Education Plan

Follow these steps to access Autodesk products:

  1. Go to https://www.autodesk.com/education/edu-software
  2. Click “Get Products”
  3. Sign in using your SMU credentials (SSO)
  4. Verify your eligibility (usually using your SMU-issued email and a quick verification process)
  5. Once verified, you’ll be able to download and install any available product under the Education Plan

Note: Verification is required once a year to maintain access to education licenses.
