Flywire Now Powers SMUPay, Revolutionizing Student Billing

SMUPayThis summer, OIT has worked with the Division of Enrollment Services to introduce our new online student billing and platform with Flywire, making SMUpay an entirely new and simpler experience for students and authorized payers. This upgrade reflects SMU’s ongoing commitment to elevating the student experience and streamlining financial processes across campus.

Why the Change?

The transition to the new platform, set to go live on June 24, is part of the university’s efforts to make paying tuition and managing student accounts easier, more transparent, and more accessible for everyone involved. SMUpay will now be supported by a trusted global billing and payment platform, recognized for its user-friendly interface, robust international payment support, and improved transparency.

What’s New for Students and Families?

The new SMUpay platform brings several key benefits:

  • A modern, mobile-friendly portal with real-time access to student accounts, making it easy to check balances and make payments on the go.
  • Expanded international payment options with competitive exchange rates, supporting our global Mustang community.
  • Improved customer support and communication tools for quicker and more effective assistance.
  • Easier access for parents and authorized payers, especially those managing accounts for multiple students in college.
  • Faster, more secure payment processing, including flexible payment plans to help families budget for tuition and fees.
  • A clearer, easier-to-understand bill interface, reducing confusion and making account management straightforward.

Transition Timeline and Support

To ensure a smooth transition, SMUpay will be unavailable from 5 p.m. CST on June 23 until 5 p.m. CST on June 24 while the new system is implemented. Fall term billing will be begin at the end of July, giving students and families time to familiarize themselves with the new features before the next billing cycle.

The Division of Enrollment Services and the Office of Information Technology are working together to provide details, training opportunities, and campus-wide communications throughout the summer to support this change.
