12twenty to Enhance SMU’s Campus Employment Experience

12Twenty LogoWe are excited to announce that as of today, August 1, 2024, SMU has transitioned from Handshake to 12twenty as our new career management platform. 12twenty is designed to enhance our campus employment and career services experience for both students and employers and provide Career Services staff with a more integrated and efficient system for managing student employment and career development activities. In addition, this new solution offers students an array of tools and resources to help them navigate their career path effectively.

While the Hegi Family Career Development Center provides more information and instructions for students, employers, and campus partners, a quick start guide for setting up your 12twenty account is available below.

Getting Started with 12twenty for Faculty and Staff

SMU faculty and staff will have the ability to create an SMU employer account and post on-campus student worker positions on SMU 12twenty.

Please Note: Faculty and staff will only have access to post positions for student workers in 12twenty. If you are not hiring student workers, you do not need to create an account!

  1. Create your SMU 12twenty SMU Employer User Account.
    1. Visit the SMU 12twenty Employer Site to create your SMU Employer User Account.
    2. Step-by-step instructions on how to create your SMU employer user account can be found here.
      1. Please Note: It is very important that you follow these instructions carefully so that your permissions are correct and you connect to the main SMU Employer company profile.
      2. Individual offices and departments will NOT have their own Employer office profiles like in Handshake but will instead be connected to the main SMU employer company profile.
  2. Post your student worker positions.
    1. Faculty and staff can post-undergraduate and graduate student worker positions. These will populate for students on a separate job tab from other employer jobs so students can easily search available on-campus jobs.
    2. Step-by-step instructions on how to post on-campus student worker jobs can be found here.
    3. Please Note: If you have any jobs currently posted on Handshake that you are actively recruiting for, you will need to post them again on 12twenty once you have created your SMU 12twenty employer account; they will not copy over from Handshake to 12twenty. Our offices will still have access to Handshake after August 1st to help manage the transition of information smoothly.

Campus Career Services staff are committed to making this transition as seamless as possible. If you have questions, please reach out to SMU Career Services at smu12twenty@smu.edu.
