New Wireless Access Points

New Wireless Access Points Beef Up Signals in Commons

SMU Wireless LogoThe work to continuously improve the speed and quality of our network infrastructure never ends, and the summer is the perfect time for a refresh. As part of our technology repairs and improvements in the lead-up to a new academic year, new wireless access points (APs) have been deployed in several locations on campus.

In just our Residential Commons alone, over 500 cutting-edge access points have been installed to replace existing hardware that was nearing the end of support. These new APs are not only better equipped to handle our ever-growing wireless traffic but also set the stage for future features like Wi-Fi 6, which allows faster speeds and greater data throughput.

Of course, connecting to these access points via PerunaNet and eduroam is exactly the same. Additional upgrades to access points across campus are in progress, including new equipment in Moody Coliseum to accommodate gameday social media posts when the Mustangs notch another win!

That is only the start. We have dozens and dozens of access points across campus. To find the best Wi-Fi location for your needs, we recommend using SMU’s Interactive Map. Just select Wi-Fi Hot Spots in the filters.
