There have been several impacts on IT services this morning. We have consolidated several messages into one post so as not to overwhelm your inbox.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) reported widespread outages today, which impacted several streaming services, Duo Security, and gaming networks. A temporary configuration change was made by OIT to minimize the impact of the Duo outage. We are back to normal with the configuration and stability of Duo two-factor authentication services.
- Our Call Center software experienced a widespread outage today, which impacted the ability for calls to reach the IT Help Desk, campus operators, and Enrollment Services for about an hour. The vendor has resolved those issues as well, and service was restored by 10:20 am.
- Finally, OIT continues to review and remediate all services impacted by the Log4J vulnerability. Maintenance efforts are being scheduled to ensure no impact on the final exam schedule.
As we near the holidays, keep in mind that this is a popular time for phishing attempts and other types of malware outbreaks. Please exercise extra caution.
- Make sure your computers are updated with the latest security patches. This includes your mobile devices as well.
- Be careful clicking on any links in emails, and do not respond to requests for account information, passwords, or verification of your account.
- Be wary of unsolicited phone calls that may also be attempting to gather your personal information.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the IT Help Desk at 214-768-HELP (4357) or email help@smu.edu.
