STAR Students Available.

SMU STAR ProgramThe Student Technology Assistant in Residence (STAR) Program is available to work with faculty and academic departments on short-term instructional technology projects. STAR students handle the technical stuff, allowing you to focus on the content.

The Best Way to Authenticate. Duo

It has been several months since the University has required Duo Two-Factor Authentication to connect to secure services like my.SMU. While there are several ways to verify your identity with Duo Security, Duo has recently published an easy-to-read, one-page guide on why Duo Push with the Duo Mobile app is the best way to authenticate.

Help Desk
Holiday Hours.

Beginning December 15th, the IT Help Desk will move to Winter scheduling for hours. Our weekday hours will be 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. The IT Help Desk will also be closed on weekends until the Spring semester.

Over the past several years, we have become more and more reliant on Wi-Fi for our phones, tablets, and laptops. Still, many of us still don’t know what to do to get the best signal for our device. We talked one of OIT’s senior network specialists about some things we can do as consumers to improve our Wi-Fi experience.

OIT Wraps Up Projects in time for Winter.

To kick off 2017, IT training will be promoting professional development through the month of January showcasing our learning partner lynda.com. We will be celebrating Lynda Weinman’s birthday, founder of lynda.com, all month long! Save the date to participate in one of our Lynda Learning Day festivities.

Canvas Boot Camp: January 18 & 19.

With the success of our Canvas Boot Camp this summer, we will be offering them again in time for the Spring Semester on Wednesday, January 18th and Thursday, January 19th. We hope you’ll join us for these come-and-go learning opportunities to get you up and running on Canvas. Registration for the Boot Camp is not required, but the sessions are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

A-LEC & OIT Team Up for Student Workshops.

The Altshuler Learning Enhancement Center (A-LEC) has partnered with OIT to offer workshops that can help your students make the best of their spring.

Canvas Corner

Every month in Canvas Corner, we discuss the new features and enhancements in Canvas. This month, we will cover new WalkThu(s), mobile student annotations, intra-group peer reviews, and some navigation changes.

SharePoint Migration Enters Final Weeks

The migration from our on-premise SharePoint (Inside.SMU) to the cloud-based SharePoint Online will be completed in the next few weeks.
