When we launched the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification program eight years ago, our goal was modest: certify 65 students in the first year. Never did I imagine that just 8.5 years later, we would be celebrating our journey toward 10,000 MOS certifications.
What began in 2017 with a single professor integrating MOS certification into their course has grown into a program supported by 17 faculty members. Last year alone, OIT serviced over 50 class sections that requested certification as part of their course content. Along the way, we’ve increased our student support and heard countless stories from students who credit their MOS certifications with helping them succeed academically, secure internships, or even land their very first job.
Many students who initially completed only one required exam have returned, asking how they can earn certification in the full Office suite to build their digital skills portfolio. Staff members, too, have taken advantage of the program to strengthen their professional development and expand their technical proficiency.
SMU has also earned national recognition for our MOS program, and this semester, we are thrilled to announce that we will officially surpass 10,000 total certifications in the upcoming weeks.
To celebrate this major milestone, we’re giving away a special MOS10K Study Pack to the student who earns the 10,000th certification. Additional surprise items will also be awarded to students who earn a MOS certification this semester, up until the date we reach our 10,000 certification milestone.

- Take the a MOS certification exam.
