New Public Wiki Space Coming Soon to SMU

an icon of a piece of paper with wiki written on it.When Wiki.SMU was first launched over 10 years ago, the intention was to have a public wiki space for everyone, including guests and non-SMU affiliated individuals, to find information, documentation, and other resources that didn’t necessarily need to be hosted on the main SMU website. As the service was rolled out, security measures were put in place that users came to expect, which made changing how the service operated challenging. With our recent switch to XWiki, we have an opportunity again to launch an open, public wiki service for campus starting this fall.

Resources.SMUThe new public wiki Resources.SMU does not require a login to easily access documentation and non-sensitive resources. This public wiki will house essential information, best practices, and guidelines for all, and serve as a resource to share amongst interested parties. Resources.SMU will promote transparency and open access to institutional knowledge, encourage community contributions and collaborative learning, reduce redundancy and improve consistency in documentation, and support onboarding, training, and long-term organizational memory. This will also allow for easy access to content for projects related to the University’s AI initiative.

The space will have the same user-friendly interface with powerful search functionality as our current wiki.smu.edu space. Editing pages will still be restricted to SMU-authorized individuals, and creating or modifying pages will remain the same.

If you have content on smu.edu or in the current wiki that would benefit from being publicly available and searchable, our project team is looking for interested parties to help migrate it to the new service. If you are interested, please contact the IT Help Desk to get started.
