When macOS Sequoia was released earlier this fall, we recommended that users of SMU Macs hold off on upgrading while OIT investigated and tested to ensure compatibility with all of our major platforms and software. Today, we are happy to report that you can now upgrade to Sequoia at your convenience!
You can update your Mac by going to your System Settings. While we have done extensive testing for our own service and software compatibility, keep in mind that you will need to personally check that any non-SMU applications that you have installed will continue to work with macOS Sequoia. This applies to any application that’s not provided by SMU that you have downloaded and installed yourself.
Also, please note that macOS Sequoia is not yet ready to be deployed to lab or classroom computers and is only approved for staff and faculty devices. Lab and classroom devices will remain on macOS Sonoma until all remaining software and compliance checks are completed.
Standout Features of macOS Sequoia
Apple Intelligence: A secure solution by Apple powered by both Apple servers and ChatGPT to provide writing tools, email summaries, image creation, and more. Apple Intelligence will be rolled out by Apple starting with macOS 15.1. More features will be rolled out over the next year. Apple Intelligence is in its early stages, and SMU will evaluate the impact it has throughout its release. As with all Artificial Intelligence/LLVM solutions, please refer to SMU’s Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Guidance site- iPhone Mirroring: Mirror your phone and access your iOS notifications directly from your device that is signed in to the same Apple ID.
- Window Tiling: Native solution for tiling any open application and organize your windows in many different layouts.
- Mathematic Equations in Notes: The Notes app for macOS now supports equations and variables, and can automatically calculate exepressions inline.
