Windows “Sign Out” Bug and Instructor Stations

icon of a bugA recent bug introduced with Windows updates is impacting the ability for users to “sign out” after logging into a domain-joined device, including all classrooms and labs. While Microsoft has acknowledged this bug was introduced with KB5041585 that impacts Azure Hybrid Joined devices by creating a broken Start menu, a complete fix will not be released by Microsoft until the end of September. Our team has implemented a “workaround” on all classroom and lab computers. A “logoff” shortcut has been added to the desktop, and the pinned items are on the start menu, as seen below. After completing teaching in a room, you can launch this shortcut to be signed out of the computer.

We apologize for this inconvenience and will implement the official patch once it is available.
