Getting Started with Data Research Using Forrester

Forrester Research logoDid you know that all SMU students, faculty, and staff have access to the Forrester research portal? Many of you know how invaluable these databases of research findings, including analyses, opinions, trends, leading practices, or case studies, can be. With the Forrester platform, users can access market data research, business operation insights, and more just by going to smu.edu/Forrester.

Getting Started with Your Forrester Account

To use Forrester Research, you must connect your SMU email to a Forrester account.

  1. To create a Forrester account, click the Sign In button on the Forrester Research service page at smu.edu/forrester.
  2. Forrester Sign-InAt the prompt, enter your SMU email (i.e., cuser@smu.edu) in the Business Email Address field. Your address will be detected for Single Sign-On.
  3. Click Log In to be redirected to SMU’s Single Sign-On Page for Forrester.
  4. Enter your SMU credentials and click Login.
  5. A Duo login is also required for Forrester, so you will need to accept the prompt on your mobile device.
  6. As with most services, you must agree to the forrester.com Terms of use and Privacy Policy before continuing. Once you select the checkbox to agree, click Continue.

Welcome to Forrester!

At this point, you will need to choose a role and add some interests before you get started. Once you have completed those steps, use the search bar to begin your research. Need help getting started?

Here are a few tips for the best way to find the research you are interested in.

  • Just enter a topic, report title, or analyst’s name in the search box on any page.
  • Use the Forrester homepage to gain personalized results based on your interests. It is regularly updated to showcase Forrester’s latest research.
  • Review the Services tab to access the recommended research, tools, and frameworks.
  • Explore the Insights tab to examine Forrester’s most popular research and tech waves.
  • Set up email alerts on research related to your interests.
