Earlier this year, IT Training collaborated with the Registrar’s office to ensure that all employees who are responsible for managing their academic scheduling had access to just-in-time training for Course Catalog and Schedule of Classes.
Previously, this training was only offered 2-3 times a year which proved problematic schedule-wise for both the trainee and the training department. The team’s vision was to make resources available whenever the scheduler needed it, as scheduling responsibilities occur only a few times a year, and not tied to times when the trainer, room schedules, and scheduler availability aligned.
Getting Started and Security
Employees who need access to update the Course Catalog and Schedule of Classes should have their manager submit an account request form via the IT Help Desk ticketing system. Once the request is submitted and approved by Enrollment Services, the employee will be auto-enrolled in the online training.
On-Demand Training
The team worked to create over 20 short training videos on all aspects of scheduling. These videos, averaging under 6 minutes each, are available to aid the scheduler walk through the steps in the scheduling process. The collection videos may be found in the my.smu knowledge base in wiki.smu.edu. Schedulers can also access the Course Catalog and Schedule of Classes topics directly.
Questions regarding obtaining security may be directed to the IT Help Desk. Specific class scheduling questions should be sent via email to drippy@smu.edu .
