IRVING – SMU’s seismology team deployed 15 new seismographs in Irving Wednesday after 12 earthquakes shook the town and surrounding areas in the last day.
They are part of 22 total seismographs that will be deployed in Irving this week. Two more from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) are expected to arrive and be deployed Thursday, then five provided by Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) are scheduled for deployment Friday.
The SMU team will not disclose the locations, but hopes to use data to investigate what is causing the earthquakes.
The USGS confirmed there was another earthquake overnight on Wednesday afternoon, which now brings the total to 12 in the last 24 hours. The newly-confirmed 2.3-magnitude quake occurred in Irving at 1:24 a.m. READ MORE
