The Director’s Forum is an annual lecture series at the museum intended for an adult audience. This year’s forum will feature talks by three speakers at the Mayborn Museum Complex, 1300 S. University Parks Drive.
Louis Jacobs, Ph.D., will lecture on “Lone Star Dinosaurs: An Update on the State” at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Jacobs is a professor in the Roy M. Huffington Department of Earth Sciences at Southern Methodist University and president of the Institute for the Study of Earth and Man at SMU. He is the author of “Lone Star Dinosaurs,” a book about dinosaurs in Texas.
Karen Carr will lecture on “Filling in the Blanks: Creating a World from Bits and Pieces” at 2 p.m. Thursday. Carr is a wildlife and natural history artist whose artwork has been displayed in publications, zoos, museums and parks in the United States, Japan and Europe. Carr is the illustrator of “Lone Star Dinosaurs.”
Mike Polcyn will lecture on “Lone Star Sea Monsters: Marine Life in Texas During the Age of Dinosaurs” at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Polcyn is an associate research professor and senior fellow of the Institute for the Study of Earth and Man at SMU. His research focuses on Mesozoic marine reptiles.
“The topic is regionally significant,” said Rebecca Tucker Nall, assistant director of exhibits, communication and visitor services at the Mayborn. “The speakers will be talking about research that was done here, digs that are done here in Texas. Everyone loves dinosaurs, and the lectures will bring part of the museum’s collection into discussion.”
Tickets, which include general museum admission, are $10 per lecture or $25 for all three. For Mayborn Museum members and Baylor University students, tickets are $5 per lecture or $13 for all three. Lecture tickets may be purchased on the Mayborn Museum website or at the door.
The Director’s Forum will also host a lunch with Jacobs and Carr at noon Thursday, where lecturers will be available for book signing. Lunch reservations are $40 and must be purchased by Monday, Jan. 30. READ MORE
