MIS looking for Special Education teachers
MIS is looking for two critical positions to fill in our Special Education department for the 2022-2023 school year.
One position is for our 5-8 grades Fundamentals classroom. In this position the teacher developing and implementing lesson plans for academic and life skills subjects, supervising groups of students, and managing behavioral challenges in the classroom. This teacher works in conjunction with other teachers, aides, and school personnel to support students with learning, mental, emotional, or physical disabilities. This teacher would also have the support of our current fundamentals teacher as we are adding an additional class.
The other position is for 5th grade In Class Support (ICS). The ICS teacher supports students in the general education classroom by co-teaching, pull out small group, and modifying general education work the student needs based on their Individual Education Plan (IEP). This teacher would be supporting students specifically in Language Arts content.
Both teaching positions would include data collection and progress monitoring for IEP’s as well as attending Annual Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings to share findings with the committee members.

Partners in Opportunity- Summer Tutoring Opportunity
Partners in Opportunity, a local nonprofit working to put kids on the path to college, is looking for volunteer tutors to work with our elementary students this summer. This will be a rewarding and valuable experience for tutors, and tutors will make a direct impact on the future of the students in our program.
Volunteer tutors will be working one-on-one with an elementary student using a structured curriculum for reading and math. The summer tutoring block runs for 8 weeks throughout June and July. Tutoring sessions are 1 hour and 15 minutes. The tutoring venue is on campus at SMU.
The application process requires a short application, a 45-minute interview, 3 reference checks, and 2 hours of virtual training. A minimum commitment of 20 sessions is required, but tutors can pick from any available days (they do not have to be available throughout the entirety of the summer session).
