Summer Opportunity for students to teach ESL to low-income adults and young adults

This is Angel Del Rio and I am the president of SRA Ministries. we are a fairly young charity in the Dallas Metroplex who joins forces with other organizations to help the fight against hunger, homelessness, and education. We currently began a program for youth, young adults, and adults on English as a second language, especially targeting low-income and migrant populations. This way we will be able to help the community to grow stronger and with education, particularly to be able to communicate, find better opportunities, defend themselves and protect others.

We recently partnered with Americorps-Equal-Hearts of Dallas TX, to provide adult English Language Learners a summer program with an accelerated session of learning English.

I was an assistant principal in one of the Middle Schools in DISD a few years ago and remember that we partnered with SMU and the Teachers department to bring student teachers to do internships with us! Because of that, I thought, it would be a great idea to let them know that we, now as a local nonprofit, are looking for students who would like to teach English as a Second Language to migrants and to low-income adults.

Through AMERICORPS we will be hiring 3 teachers for the upcoming session of June 6th through July 29th. Teachers will receive a stipend of almost $3,000.00 and a Voucher of around $2,500.00 that can be used to pay student loan or to pay for new school registration. Each teacher will serve about 5 to 6 hours per day Monday through Friday and will teach 2 to 3 sessions per day. Other hours will be for online via zoom “office hour”, then the preparation time, then the follow up with students through the phone, etc. Curriculum and training will be provided. Teachers will also have the opportunity to interact with their site coordinator and with the SRA Ministries team.

We will also have additional summer opportunities that are not with a stipend. Volunteers will support teachers and the SRA Ministries team during the summer program and their schedule will be very flexible, probably no more than 10 hours per week.
