Dallas Theater Center and SMU Meadows / Ignite Arts Dallas, in association with the AT&T Performing Arts Center, presented a musical theatre production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, a community participation project conceived by Lear deBessonet and directed by Kevin Moriarty, with book, music and lyrics by Todd Almond.
Photographer Kim Leeson was on set to capture the moving moments. These are our favorite shots.
The 2015 Meadows Prize was awarded to deBessonet, director of Public Works at New York’s Public Theater, to adapt The Tempest as a large-scale musical with an ensemble of 200 members from across Dallas, only a handful of whom are professional actors; deBessonet had created a similar Tempest in New York in 2013.

This production of The Tempest marks the first endeavor of the new Public Works Dallas program at Dallas Theater Center, one of the first two Public Works affiliates in the nation, a direct result of the Meadows Prize.
