Research Assistant – Centre for Economic Performance

University of Maryland – Pre-doctoral Trainee Program

The Department of Economics at the University of Maryland, College Park is recruiting two trainees for a new pre­doctoral program. The program will bring students to campus for one year of research experience under faculty supervision and for advanced course work. Trainees who successfully complete the pre-doctoral year will be invited to enroll in the UMD PhD program (with full funding) without further application.

The program seeks to prepare students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the economics profession for graduate work by providing relevant research experience and the opportunity to take additional courses, such as upper-level math and statistics, and to promote long-term investment in mentoring that extends from the pre-doctoral year through completion of the PhD.

University of Notre Dame – Pre-doctoral Research Associate, Economics

The university of Notre Dame has announced a new Poverty Initiative that is charged with establishing Notre Dame as a premier university in poverty-related research, student formation, and policy and program impact. The program will be hiring three pre-doctoral (pre-doc) Research Associates who work closely with faculty in different social science disciplines to assist in their empirical research. This pre-doc position will work in the field of economics, under the direction of two scholars in the department. Kasey Buckles will lead a team focused on developing the Census Tree and using the data for research in economic history and demography (with Joseph Price at BYU). Jeff Denning will supervise work in support of his research agenda on higher education opportunities.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student considering graduate school and would be a bridge between college and graduate school for students interested in empirical applied microeconomic research. Research associates will perform a variety of tasks including coordinating project logistics, creating analysis files, statistically analyzing data, helping to create presentations, editing research papers, assisting in the preparation of grant proposals, assisting in the writing of IRB protocols and data sharing agreements, and assisting in the dissemination of project results.

UT Austin – One-year Master’s Program

The Department of Economics at the University of Texas at Austin is still accepting applications for their one-year Master’s program. This STEM-designated program offers advising services and a dynamic curriculum for both career-focused and PhD-bound students, including data science courses and practicum opportunities.

The program’s flexible curriculum offers three different tracks: an accelerated 10-month track, an 18-month track, and a 24-month track.  In addition to core coursework in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, students can take electives in several areas: game theory, industrial organization, labor economics, energy economics, and more.
