The Centre for Economic Performance is hiring a research assistant. The position offers an opportunity to work on projects for the ERC funded Labor Policies for Inclusive Growth in the Centre for Economic Performance, and associated core Centre projects. The topics of research will be the impact of technology, immigration and imperfect competition on the labor market.

The Department of Economics at the University of Maryland, College Park is recruiting two trainees for a new predoctoral program. The program will bring students to campus for one year of research experience under faculty supervision and for advanced course work. Trainees who successfully complete the pre-doctoral year will be invited to enroll in the UMD PhD program (with full funding) without further application.
The program seeks to prepare students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the economics profession for graduate work by providing relevant research experience and the opportunity to take additional courses, such as upper-level math and statistics, and to promote long-term investment in mentoring that extends from the pre-doctoral year through completion of the PhD.

This STEM-designated program offers advising services and a dynamic curriculum for both career-focused and PhD-bound students, including data science courses and practicum opportunities.
The program’s flexible curriculum offers three different tracks: an accelerated 10-month track, an 18-month track, and a 24-month track. Job Description:
Professor Ashvin Gandhi (UCLA Anderson School of Management) is looking to hire a full-time research associate to begin in summer 2024 for an anticipated term of two years. The position will entail close collaboration and assistance with all stages of empirical economics research. Research topics will include industrial organization, healthcare, and urban economics.
Qualifications:
- Strong quantitative background.
- Strong grades in quantitative coursework (e.g. math, econ, stats) is required.
- Background in economics is a plus but is not necessary. Applicants with strong technical backgrounds and enthusiasm to learn are welcome.
- Experience with statistical software such as Stata, R, or Python.
- Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated programming proficiency and the ability to work in other languages, such as Julia or C++.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with large datasets.
- Candidates with less programming experience but an enthusiasm to learn are encouraged to apply and will be given serious consideration.
