Critical American Elections

October 23, 2020 @ 12:00 am - 1:00 pm

Critical Elections in American History. Is 2020 One?

Politicians claim every election is ‘the most important of our lifetime,’ but 2020 feels like it just might be. Yet Americans have faced big choices before. Professor Jeffrey A. Engel will explore the politics and drama of critical votes that seemed to their era unusually important, tracing along the way the evolution of America’s national political structure from the start of the 20th century to the 21st, focusing in particular on the elections of 1912, 1940, and 1992.

This event was held as a part of the SMU Simmons GLS Mini-Lecture Chat: The Power of Listening series.
