Dr. Austin Baldwin and Dr. David Rosenfield were both granted tenure this spring. Dr. Baldwin was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.  Dr. Rosenfield was already an Associate Professor.  The faculty is delighted with the news!  Congratulations to both!!

Deanna Denman was recently awarded a Research Supplement to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research from the National Cancer Institute. The two-year award will support Deanna’s work as a graduate research assistant on a project, “Developing a self-persuasion intervention promoting adolescent HPV vaccination”, under the supervision of Drs. Austin Baldwin (SMU, Department of Psychology) and Jasmin Tiro (UT Southwestern, Department of Clinical Sciences). The award will also provide Deanna with funds to travel to multiple research conferences during the award period. Congratulations, Deanna!

Kristen Yule was recently awarded the Douglas & Ferne Center Family Scholarship in Psychology. She is a rising senior in the psychology distinction program. In addition to her major in psychology, she is also majoring in sociology, along with a minor in business administration. Congratulations, Kristen!

Dr. Alicia Meuret, an Associate Professor of Psychology at SMU, was recently awarded a University Research Council grant for her new project “Painful relief: Uncovering emotional and physiologic correlates of self-harm.”

Dr. Aki Kamata of the Psychology Department and the Simmons School of Education is the Co-PI of a four year grant designed to develop and test a new assessment system for measuring oral fluency for students grades 3-5. Congratulations!

Noelle Smith, a graduate student in psychology, was awarded a tuition scholarship to attend the annual student workshop on CBT for Depression and Suicidality at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy.   Noelle competed against more than 850 applicants!  Good going, Noelle.

Dr. Aki Kamata’s article “Modeling Nonlinear Growth with Three Data Points: Illustration with Benchmarking Data” was selected as the 2013 article of the year by the journal Assessment for Effective Intervention. Congratulations, Aki.

Lindy Fields won the award for outstanding research by a graduate student for her poster “Enhancing autobiographical beliefs through simple exposure.” Dr. Alan Brown is her advisor.
The undergraduate award went to Kelli Sargent for her poster “Parentification as a mediator of the relation between parental depressive symptoms and youth internalizing problems.” Her advisor is Dr. Chrystyna Kouros.
