Change in Department Administration in August

On August 1st, the Psychology Department will have a new administration. After 12 years of outstanding leadership, Dr. Ernie Jouriles will be stepping down as Chair. Dr. George Holden will become the new Chair.

Other changes include Dr. Lorelei Simpson Rowe will become Director of Graduate Studies and Dr. Alan Brown will be the new Director of Undergraduate Studies.

Article by 3 Psychology faculty is one of the most talked about

A recent article by Drs. Simpson Rowe, Jouriles, and McDonald is one of the most talked about articles in clinical psychology in the past six months (as determined by news reports, Twitter activity, etc), according to the publishing house Elsevier.

Undergraduate students present their research

Four undergraduates were first authors on posters about their research in various psychology labs.

They were Katie Bridges (Rowe lab), Courtney Cox (Kouros lab), Denise Crawford (Meuret lab), and Jiani Zhu (Chmielewski lab).

Dr. Ritz Receives a Research Grant

Dr. Thomas Ritz received a research grant from the Dedman College Dean’s Research Council for his work with Chemistry faculty member Alex Lippert utilizing smartphones to monitor airway inflammation in individuals with asthma. Congratulations!

Study by Psych Faculty Appears in Newsweek

A study by three Psychology faculty members, using virtual reality to train women in a sexual assault prevention program (My voice, my choice), was described in the Feb. 2 edition of Newsweek magazine. The study, by Drs. Lorelei Rowe, Ernest Jouriles, and Renee McDonald, appeared in Behavior Therapy.

Dr. Meuret elected President of a Academic Society

Dr. Alicia Meuret was recently elected president of the International Society of Respiratory Psychophysiology (ISARP)! She is the fifth woman to be the president, out of 20 presidents. Congratulations!

Psych Dept & Psi Chi Celebrate their 85th!

The 85th anniversary of the founding of the department’s Psi Chi chapter (the psychology undergraduate honors society) occurred on Dec. 29th.

Unfortunately, no one was on campus to celebrate the date, so the occasion will be remembered later in the spring!

Dr. Baldwin has been appointed Associate Editor of the Journal of Behavioral Medicine. This interdisciplinary journal is devoted to furthering understanding of physical health and illness through the knowledge and techniques of behavioral sciences.
