John Campione (B.M. vocal performance and music education ’10) has made a successful career as a singer and actor, performing in numerous DFW theatres and in the national touring companies of the Broadway shows The Bridges of Madison County and School of Rock. During the pandemic he’s been isolating in his New York apartment and writing songs. A particularly touching one was a tribute to Brooklyn healthcare worker Madhvi Aya, who lost her life helping her community fight COVID-19. Campione was inspired by The New York Times story about her and the image of her final text exchange with her daughter. He said, “I couldn’t help but hear it musically, and so this is the song that emerged.”
