Severe weather update [5/19/2023]

Overview from National Weather Service:

Severe storms are expected along a cold front Friday afternoon and evening.

  • Scattered thunderstorms will develop along a strong cold front Friday afternoon. Some of these storms will be severe with damaging winds being the main threat. Some instances of large hail will also be possible.
  • The tornado threat is low.
  • The front and best storm chances will arrive along the Red River by early afternoon, the I-20 corridor by rush hour, and Central Texas during the evening.

Here are some safety measures to take during a tornado warning, depending upon your location:

  • Go into a building and find a safe room or designated Tornado Shelter Areas
  • If a designated space is not available:
    • Go to the lowest possible level in a building
    • Move away from glass windows, exterior walls and doors
    • Move to hallways that are at the center or most interior part of the building
    • Move to restrooms without an exterior wall
