Severe weather update [4/28/2023]

Overview from National Weather Service:

Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across much of the area Thursday afternoon and evening with all modes of severe weather possible.

  • A cold front will move into the area from the west-northwest this afternoon, with thunderstorms expected to develop along it.
  • Initial storms should develop west of I-35 around mid-afternoon and move eastward into the evening.
    • Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats, with a few tornadoes possible as well. The tornado threat is highest south of I-20 and along/west of the I-35 corridor.
    • The main window for severe weather is 2-9 PM.
  • The fast movement of storms should limit the overall potential for flooding, but localized minor flood issues cannot be ruled out.
