In February 2020, SMU Libraries uploaded 759 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:
83 photographs and pamphlets, 1861-1940s. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant Number TXT-20008). (2020). These items include promotional materials for towns in Texas, schools, and events such as a singing festival in Austin in 1889. Of particular note are images of a school explosion in New London and the aftermath of a tornado in Melissa.
3 oral history interviews from Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects. These interviews, with Rosemary Hinojosa, Carmen Maciel, and Forest Turner, Jr., are part of the Voices of SMU project.
29 photographs, 1917-1967, from the Joseph Zeppa Portrait Collection. These items include portraits of military leaders and other prominent figures from World War I and World War II, including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franz Halder, and Ferdinand Foch, among others.
3 letters from the Joseph Zeppa Collection of Correspondence and Ephemera, including a postcard written by Franz Halder to his wife with an accompanying transcript and English translation.

10 photographs, taken in 1944, from the Len Morgan World War I and World War II Collection. These photographs show an Air Force squadron in various scenes, including in front of a list of combat claims and with airplanes. One particularly noteworthy image is of General Dwight Eisenhower pinning a medal on fighter pilot Major Don Gentile.
2 letters and 2 photographs from the Dowell family papers, related to Greer Dowell’s time serving on the USS Ault.
4 photographs, ca. 1939-1945, from the Collection of World War II Photographs and Posters. These images show various scenes from Europe during World War II and include a portrait of a German soldier, bomb damage in France, and German troops scaling a mountain.
54 new videos, September and October 1969, from the WFAA Newsfilm Collection, ca. 1960-1978. Highlights include footage of discussion on and a visit to the construction site of DFW airport, footage of the opening of Neiman Marcus’ “East Meets West” fortnight, and footage of Oink, a singing pig in “Uncle Heavy’s Pork Chop Revue.”
83 engine drawing cards, 1908-1937, from the Baldwin Locomotive Works Records collection (Series 7: Data books). Per the collection finding aid, “In 1910, Baldwin began keeping engine drawing data on large cards. Records of locomotives after 1903 were transferred to the cards and continued from that point. The cards are arranged by BLW class numbers and include primarily dimensions of various parts of the locomotive.”
467 student newspapers, 2003-2006, from Southern Methodist University Student Newspapers collection. The reporting in these issues includes stories about the war in Iraq, planning in 2005-2006 for the “Centennial Campaign,” and the 2006 gubernatorial election.
18 course catalogs from academic years 1969-1970, 1973-1974, and 1994-1995 from Southern Methodist University Course Catalogs. These catalogs contain general information and course descriptions from each of SMU’s programs of study.
