In July 2022, SMU Libraries uploaded 619 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:
30 images, ca. 1910-1920, from the Elmer and Diane Powell Collection on Mexico and the Mexican Revolution. These images show scenes of battles in Ciudad Juárez from 1911-1919 and other events of the revolution. Included are images of soldaderas, Federal and rebel soldiers, scenes of street battles and urban combat, and photographs of important generals and other officers.
12 interviews from the Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects collection. These interviews, with Diana Valdez Alexander, Ana Maria Delgado, Rosa Fleming, Rafael Guevara Jr., Viviana Hall, Pia Lara, Malcolm McGuire, Charles Montemayor, Lisa Montes, Mark Nerio, Anthony Sanchez, and Yvonne Ybarra, are part of the Voices of SMU project.
39 negatives, ca. 1932-1934, from the Robert Yarnall Richie Photograph Collection. These images are primarily aerial views of a number of estates in New York and Palm Beach, Florida, and include the homes of New York Times publisher Adolph Ochs, American banker Carl H. Pforzheimer, and Reed Albee, the father of the playwright Edward Albee. Also included are images of the steamship Queen of Bermuda in New York and group portraits of Richie’s extended family.
22 drawings, 1872-1938, from the Collection of Baldwin Locomotive Works Records. Among these are erecting card drawings and detail drawings of various parts for several different railroads, including Southern Pacific, the Chilean State Railway, Bakersfield & Ventura, and others.
49 images, 1944, from the John C. Cox, Jr. World War II Papers. Many of the images were taken while Cox was stationed on the Liberty and depict life at sea, including images of other boats, his fellow sailors, and more. Other images show Cox’s time in California and include images of Angel Island.
454 SMU Arden Club documents, ca. 1915-1969, from the Mary McCord/Edyth Renshaw Collection on the Performing Arts. Among these documents are club minutes, membership lists, and programs from various productions. Highlights include the membership list from its first year and a program for the club’s twentieth anniversary celebration.
5 pieces of Neiman Marcus Fortnight advertising material, 1961-1982, from the Stanley Marcus Papers collection. Highlights include a minimalist design on a card for the Ireland Fortnight, held in 1976, and a card for the British Fortnight in 1973.
7 course catalogs from the Southern Methodist University Course Catalogs collection. The catalogs document SMU’s class offerings for academic years 1931-1932 and 1938-1939.
