CUL Digital Collections Update: September 2015

In September 2015, SMU’s Central University Libraries uploaded 373 items into CUL Digital Collections. CUL now has approximately 49,080 published items.

Highlights include:

79 items from the Hervey A. Priddy Collection of American Presidential and Political Memorabilia, including political and/or campaign-related items from elections spanning 1860-2004. Items include ferrotypes, stickpins, brooches, nose thumbers, charms, lapel studs, badges, medals, and pin-back buttons.

13 posters from the Presidential Campaign Posters collection, ca. 1920s-1990s.

11 postcards of Highland Park ca. 1911-1984, including the Dallas Country Club, MK&T Depot, and Armstrong Drive.

75 photographs from the Nell Goodrich DeGolyer Papers. Most of the photographs show Rancho Encinal, the DeGolyers’ estate built in 1939, including its construction, gardens, and rooms. Rancho Encinal is now part of the Dallas Arboretum. Other images show Nell DeGolyer with her granddaughter, Roberta, and images of Nell DeGolyer entertaining guests on her patio and gardens at Rancho Encinal.

65 programs for dance concerts in the newly created SMU Meadows School of the Arts, Division of Dance Concert Programs and Materials digital collection.

45 negatives by Robert Yarnall Richie depicting the Mergenthaler Linotype Company, as well as W. A. Dwiggins.

18 items from Our Denver Story, 1863, including albums, photographs, correspondence, drawings, and ephemera. The items document Jane Whiteley’s trip to Denver by stage coach in 1863. Jane Whiteley was the wife of Simeon Whiteley, newspaperman and strong Unionist during the Civil War. In her journal, she describes life in Denver, a major flood and an “Indian scare” which precipitated her return to Wisconsin again by stage.
