In December 2024, SMU Libraries uploaded 478 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:

86 negatives, ca. 1930s, from the Robert Yarnall Richie Photograph Collection. Highlights include a series of 19 aerial views of private school campuses in New England, including St. Mark’s School, St. George’s School, and Taft School.

Two programs, 1946 and 1948, from the annual meeting of the Colored Teachers’ State Association of Texas, a conference for Black educators in Texas.

1 program, 1944, from the annual convention of the Kansas branch of the National Congress of Colored Parents and Teachers, a conference for Black educators and parents in Kansas.

A book of commandments, 1833, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, better known as the Mormon Church. The contents were dictated by Joseph Smith to two of his followers.

10 historic Texas cookbooks, 1917-1968, comprising 1,600 pages, were added to the DeGolyer Library Cookbook Collection, including Sugar N’ Spice, 1938, from the Federation of Women’s Clubs in Houston and West Texas Cookery, 1968, from the The Friends of the Terrell County Public Library. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant Number LS‐256843‐OLS‐24).

An Old Tradition, A New Beginning … SMU Football: A Video History, 1989, a documentary video produced by Ed Dalheim Corporate Video outlining SMU’s football history from its beginning in 1915 up to the ”Death Penalty” SMU received in 1987. Included are narration and oral history interviews describing players, coaches, successes, failures, and the evolution of the team throughout the decades. Players profiled include Doak Walker, Jerry LeVias, Eric Dickerson, and more.

163 documents, ca. 1840-1950, from the Georg Steindorff papers, 1841-1953. These papers document the work of eminent German Egyptologist Georg Steindorff, and include correspondence, field notes, lecture notes, clippings, published writings, and research files created or collected by Steindorff over the course of his career. Of particular interest are research notes discussing ancient Egyptian funerary rites, the planning and architecture of various ancient Egyptian cities, and grammatical notes on hieroglyphics.

1 volume of specifications, 1856-1864, containing handwritten specifications for locomotives built by Baldwin Locomotive Works.

4 images, ca. 1860s-1980s, from the Collection of Hispanic American families photographs. Highlights include an ambrotype depicting two women in dark-colored dresses.

49 photographs and postcards, ca. 1903-1945, from the Elmer and Diane Powell Collection on Mexico and the Mexican Revolution. Subjects include images of a public letter writer, or Evangelista, and a woman weaving with a backstrap loom.

30 photographs, ca. 1914, from the Elmer and Diane Powell Collection on Mexico and the Mexican Revolution, featuring the 1914 American occupation of Veracruz, including Red Cross staff at work aiding the wounded on the battlefield and standing to be photographed; the first casualties suffered on the Mexican and American sides; the effect shelling from the light cruiser U.S.S. Chester had on the home of General Gustavo Maass and the Naval Academy building; scenes of American troops marching through Veracruz; and street scenes showing bars, soldiers encamped and traveling, and soldiers assisting refugees.

1 document, a printed form completed in manuscript, establishing the Tellico Manufacturing Company, which produced sheets of cotton and wool cloth.

K.K. Staats-Eisenbahn von Laibach nach Triest [Full Portfolio], ca. 1857, a portfolio comprising 14 plates and two diagrams. The portfolio was created to commemorate the opening of the Imperial Royal State Railway from Ljubljana (then known as Laibach) to Trieste on July 27, 1857. The plates and diagrams are also available as separate items in higher resolution.

127 oral history transcript excerpts, 1986-1988, from the Ronald L. Davis Oral History Collection. The interviewees are from all branches of the performing arts, but the emphasis is on motion pictures and popular music. Many interviewees give detailed accounts of personal experience and reflections from their professional career. Highlights include excerpts from interviews with Maureen Stapleton, Horton Foote, Piper Laurie, Charlton Heston, and Leslie Uggams. The digital collection is now complete.
