SMU Libraries Digital Collections Update: October 2022

In October 2022, SMU Libraries uploaded 278 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:

140 photographs and postcards, ca. 1903-1975, from the John Miller Morris Real Photographic Postcards and Photographs of Texas collection. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant Number LS-252486-OLS-22). (2023). The postcards were primarily taken in the Panhandle and north Texas regions, and feature images of towns such as Clarendon, Silverton, Goodnight, Archer City, and more, as well as scenes of farms and landscapes.

7 interviews from the Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects collection. These interviews, with Courtney Caldwell, Adrien Cuellar-McGuire, Alisha Fillmore, Barbara Hill-Moore, Jeff Hood, Joe Hoselton, and Lori Land are part of the Voices of SMU project.

30 real photographic postcards, ca. 1910-1920, from the Elmer and Diane Powell Collection on Mexico and the Mexican Revolution. These images show scenes in and around El Paso, Ciudad Juarez, and elsewhere in Mexico. This set of images covers damage to the urban landscape and buildings, medical and rescue workers, a few scenes of bullfighting, and federal and rebel soldiers in Ciudad Juarez.

13 drawings, 1893-1922, from the Collection of Baldwin Locomotive Works Records. Among this set are detail drawings for the Government of New South Wales and erecting card drawings for Pacific States Lumber, Tonopah & Tidewater, Southern Pacific, and others.

11 folders of press releases from the Texas Instruments Records collection. These releases cover content on events, shows, product releases, and internal TI affairs from 1967, 1968, and January-February 1969.

76 negatives, ca. 1945-1954, from the Richard Steinheimer Photograph Collection. These images include images of trains taken in California, particularly Los Angeles and the areas around San Francisco, as well as a number of images of ferries in the San Francisco Bay.
