In June 2022, SMU Libraries uploaded 352 items into SMU Libraries Digital Collections. Highlights include:
244 images, ca. 1905-1941, from the John Miller Morris Real Photograph Postcards and Photographs of Texas. This project was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (Grant Number TXT-22001). (2022). The postcards feature images taken in the panhandle and in the Rio Grande Valley areas of Texas, and include photographs of towns, courthouses, homes, ranches, and more. Of particular note are a number of images of Del Rio, which showcase the town’s growth and change from the 1880s through the 1940s.
6 interviews from the Southern Methodist University Oral History Interviews and Digital Humanities Student Projects collection. The interviews, with Sonia Arista, Benjamin Garcia, Mercury Hall, Samantha Mabry, Jessica Mitchell, and Jamal Story, are part of the Voices of SMU oral history project.
22 real photographic postcards and 8 photographs, ca. 1910-1920, from Elmer and Diane Powell Collection on Mexico and the Mexican Revolution. The images show scenes of the revolution in Ciudad Juárez and elsewhere in Mexico. Included are images of soldaderas, women who became soldiers in the revolution and fought with the Zapatistas and other factions. Other images show villagers, children, and young teens who have become soldiers. (Note: Some images depict scenes of graphic violence.)
8 drawings, 1899-1938, from the Collection of Baldwin Locomotive Works Records. These erecting card drawings were created for several railroad companies, including Southern Pacific, Baltimore & Ohio, and Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe.
14 segments of news clips and b-roll film from the WFAA Newsfilm Collection, ca. 1960-1978 have been annotated. These clips are from December, 1970.
63 course catalogs and course catalog sections from the Southern Methodist University Course Catalogs collection. The catalogs document SMU’s class offerings for academic years 2000-2006, and 2016-2021.
1 diary, 1941, from the Sir Ellice Victor Elias Sassoon Papers and Photographs. This diary, which was kept by Victor Sassoon in 1941, features photographs, newspaper clippings, and handwritten entries.
17 rosters, ca. 1908-1969, from the Sylvan R. Woods Papers. The rosters list locomotives built by various companies, including the American Locomotive Company, New York Locomotive Works, the General Motors Corporation, and others.
